Professional biography

Mary Lane's particular interests are community development and peace building. Her background includes community practice in western and south western Sydney, as well as terms on the National Women's Advisory Council and the Family Law Council of Australia.

Mary's research has primarily focussed on the development of practice theory and has entailed extensive documentation and analysis of community practice - nationally and internationally. Links between community work and social movements, notably feminism, environmentalism and peace, have been of keen interest.  Her current research is an historical memoir exploring  theoretical and practice developments in community work since the 1960's.
