Professional biography

Dr Pockett has extensive practice experience in the health sector and prior to joining the Faculty, was the Director of Social Work at Westmead Hospital and Area Director, Western Sydney Area Health Service.

Research interests include practice-based research in the health field; health inequalities; interprofessional education; the occupational culture of social work; and the transition of new graduate social workers to professional practice.

  • 'Curriculum renewal & interprofessional health education: establishing capabilities, outcomes and standards'. Funded by: the Office for Learning & Teaching (formerly ALTC Australian Learning and Teaching Council), Health Workforce Australia and WA Health.   • 'Coming in mid-stream' - accelerated entry programs as a social inclusion initiative: the BSW exemplar'. 2011 University of Sydney Widening Participation Grant
  • 'How to actively engage pre-tertiary students (within the Compass program) with concepts about social work and social justice using an interactive format.
