Professional biography
Tim's principal work concerns colonial education focusing on India using postcolonial and feminist paradigms. He has published international articles on these topics and his book, Ruling Through Education analyses, in postcolonial perspective, colonial education in north India in the late nineteenth century. He is working on an Australian Research Council (ARC) grant concerning the disciplinarity of classroom language and he has published a book on the social history of Western Victoria, Australia. He has been involved in history-syllabus development in NSW, and is particularly interested in developing its Asian perspective. And he is part of the NSW advisory board concering the development of the National Curriculum K-10.
Tim has developed a course on cross-cultural education which has enabled his students to undertake international fieldwork research in Asia, Canada and Europe. He is also currently using the model of 'knowledge transfer' and gender for two research projects. Tim is working on two research projects with Indian educators in Mumbai and Delhi looking at underprivileged urban education; and gender and Science education. He is currently working on a University of Sydney Social Inclusion project concerning History teachers and another project on ICT in the classroom. As well, he is researching a project concerning Global Education language and its socio-cultural predications in Australia compared to other countries in Asia.
