Karen Garlan has previously held professional and academic roles at Western Sydney University; and Sydney institute of Community Languages Education and Faculty of Medicine and Health, both at The University of Sydney. Currently, she is coordinator of the Refugee Language Program, a University of Sydney Community Engagement initiative hosted by Sydney School of Education and Social Work. Her research interests include the development of authentic assessment and the implementation of reflective practice in teaching and learning.
