Christabel Wescombe is a former research librarian at The University of Sydney. Her academic background in international and comparative education has resulted in bibliographical publications about education in Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG), beginning with her master's study, which was inspired by a faculty visit to PNG sponsored by the PNG government. An analysis of the PNG education system and visits to educational institutions resulted in the 1979 publication Papua New Guinea: Guide to Sources in Education.

The 1993 publication Education in New South Wales: A Guide to State and Commonwealth Sources 1788-1992, was compiled in response to an invitation from the Australian Bicentennial Authority.

Christabel’s academic interests continue to centre on information retrieval for research purposes with specific application to the writing of literature reviews, meta-analyses, research reports, systematic reviews, and publication in general. She contributes especially to the Sydney School of Education and Social Work's research into international and comparative education as well as the Master of Education (Educational Management and Leadership) program. She is currently a member of the Developing Educational Professionals in Southeast Asia (DEPISA) research project team.
