Carmen has more than a decade of experience working as an educator across a multitude of diverse cultural settings. Her initial degree in Primary Education from The University of Sydney laid the foundation for her career and instilled a passion for teaching and learning.
Subsequently, Carmen obtained a Graduate Certificate in Arts from the University of New South Wales, with a major in Chinese-English Translation and Interpreting. This multicultural exposure deepened her understanding of language acquisition and cross-cultural communication, leading her to complete a Master of Education from the University of Hong Kong, specialising in Psychological Studies in Education. These postgraduate studies added to Carmen’s knowledge of pedagogical theories and instructional strategies, and equipped her with the skills needed to address the diverse needs of learners.
As a result, Carmen has been an educator in many settings and in different countries, from teaching at Aoba-Japan International School to lecturing at Hong Kong University School of Professional and Continuing Education. These experiences have honed her ability to design and deliver engaging curriculum tailored to different learning styles and academic levels.
She has also served in leadership positions, including Numeracy & Science Coordinator at Korean International School and as a Student Activity Coordinator at St Mark’s School. These appointments required collaboration with colleagues, development of schoolwide initiatives, and the ability to foster a supportive learning environment conducive to academic and personal growth.
Carmen’s background, and her passion for lifelong learning, drive her to continually explore innovative approaches to education and curriculum development. She enjoys collaborating with like-minded professionals and making a meaningful impact in the field of education.
