Judith studied engineering before transferring to mathematics education. This background enabled her to take on diverse roles, initially as a teacher of upper-secondary mathematics, then as a curriculum writer and writer of mathematics text books for TAFE and the Mathematics Association of Western Australia.

Later, Judith moved into the tertiary environment, teaching research methods and operations management in WA, Asia and the US. This was followed by nearly 20 years as senior lecturer and curriculum developer in two fields: training and organisational development; and postgraduate project management.

Judith designed and wrote the curriculum for the first undergraduate major in project management to be offered in Australia.

For the past 10 years, she has been a private consultant in measurement, evaluation and assessment to government and private organisations in WA and NSW. She joins SSESW's Centre for Educational Measurement and Assessment to assist in the supervision of higher-degree research students. Her own doctoral thesis was about the supervision of PhD students and resulted in her being invited to speak – shortly after its publication – at the biennial "Quality in Post-graduate Research Conference".
